Year 7
In Year 7 Students work in a range of subjects, learning basic design skills, practical skills and independent working. Art is taught as a weekly lesson for the whole year, and students also spend 10-12 weeks in each of the other areas on a rotational basis throughout the year.
Art - Students study the basic formal elements used in producing artwork and then later in the year undertake two projects each based around a specific theme.
D&T - students receive a safety induction into working safely in the workshop areas during practical lessons before going on to design and manufacture a push along mechanical toy.
Food - Students learn basic food preparation skills as well as some of the basic science and theory of nutrition and menu planning.
Textiles Students learn basic hand sewing skills as well as some fashion design and embellishment skills.
Year 8
In Year 8 students continue to build upon the skills and knowledge they gained in Year 7, increasing the depth of their understanding and the breadth of their capabilities, as well as developing skills in new areas. Again they rotate around the different areas, whilst maintaining a single lesson of art each week.

Year 9
In Year 9 students can select an area of CT that interests them to specialise in for the whole year. This allows them to refine their skills in that area and experience lessons in a format closer to that of GCSE. The options they choose for Year 9 are not binding for GCSE, but do allow those pupils who stick with a subject the opportunity to better prepare themselves for GCSE.
Art
D&T - Students learn to tackle larger projects in the same way they would at GCSE. These include the themes of Automata and Children's play. Students learn how to produce a portfolio of material that explains their journey through the design process.
